I love this. Though I wonder whether the committee thing is peculiarly Canadian. I couldn’t believe, when I moved from the UK to Canada, how much administration in healthcare and academic was done via committees, nor how inefficient and normalized this was. There are usually better ways of making good democratic decisions, involving people, and getting things done!
Could be. But for hiring I much prefer the N.American academic model of full day or more interviews per candidate vs what I experienced in Europe which was 30min and very bureaucratic. But generally, I agree we do WAY too many meetings for things in Canada that could better be decided in small group…
